Units of Inquiry
In Year 2, we complete 6 different Units of Inquiry as part of the PYP. Below the links to each Unit page will be uploaded as we begin them.
Each page includes photos and explanations of the activities involved, as well as some of the focuses and PYP attitudes, learner profiles, skills and concepts that were being addressed in each lesson.

The Inquiry Cycle
Through out each unit of inquiry we follow an 'Inquiry Circle'. This process helps the children to organise their thinking and making connections. This process is fluid and each step may be revisited multiple times as an inquiry progresses
We explore, we investigate, we discover
This is often the bulk of most inquiries as this is where the children gather new information. They may do so in a variety of formats, such as research, conducting experiments, asking questions of others etc. This process is often hands on as the children take control of their learning |
We share our thinking
After we have gathered our new information we need to communicate it with others. This requires that we have a solid understanding and are able to make links between what we already knew and what we have learnt. We may share our thinking in posters, through speeches, with drawings or actions. There are many ways to communicate ideas and each child can communicate in their own way. |
We act, we change
Action is an important part of the PYP. Children are continually encouraged to reflect on what they have learnt, think about how it links to their lives or the community around them, and act to create positive change. Action can be as simple as choosing to read a book on a topic to gather more information, to telling people in the family to change their behaviour (e.g. eat more fruit), or even to something more complex such as creating a petition to support recycling in the community. As parents, it is important that you support any action your children are displaying. Better yet, please let your teacher know as it will help guide their future learning. |
